These last few days I've felt a bit lost. My weekend generally comprises of a substantial amount of exercise / training and seeing that I'm currently incapacitated I'm not sure what to do with myself.
The hamstring feels tight, a little stiff though pretty good. The rehab exercises are so simple its almost like I'm not doing anything so I'm feeling like hitting the gym. Of course I know myself too well by now and I'm likely to push something to hard and unintentionally end up causing further damage. So I'm left with rest.
Looking at things in a positive manner, this is an opportunity for me to do all those things that I deem not critical enough when I'm training for a competition.
My life outside of Taekwondo consists of socializing over coffee or dinner with friends in Fitzroy. Of course there is shopping and enjoying the amazing spring weather but the highlight this week will be heading to the Metallica concert on Wednesday night. I can't wait!
I think this up coming week will be a good chance to focus on a couple of critical projects at work and hopefully get ahead a little. I've recently used a new software program for the first time and will be spending a bit of time ensuring the program I've written works, as well as becoming more familiar with the software itself. This will mean a few days out of the office and out on site which I'm looking forward to because it is a break from the general routine.
Tomorrow morning I'm booked in to get an ultrasound on my hamstring. I think its necessary to fully assess the damage to get a clear indication of whether I can realistically compete at Nationals. By what the physio tells me its going to be a fine line and if the muscle hasn't fully healed I risk another injury which will be worse than the current one.
Also in the back of my mind is that I know that I will need to be 100% fit to compete with the guys in my division. The last thing I want to be is someones punching bag and be smashed.
