Preparing for Nationals.

Nationals is ten weeks away and as a club we have all sat down with Carlo and discussed what we are individually working on.
Im working on a number of things, my short game (tucking my foot in and kick short when my opponent is close to me), double and triple round houses and properly setting up my kicks so Im unpredictable.
This week has been a great week for me. I think my hip injury has finally settled down and Im training pain free for the first time since March! (Thanks Adam).
About a month ago I committed to making myself work harder by wearing all of my padding during the entire class (knee, double shin, shoes and oinkies). Initially the extra weight slowed me down but now I don't even notice it, the theory being that when I fight next without all this extra protective gear I will feel lighter and move faster.
My focus this week has been landing my doubles and triples. Its a difficult kick for me as I only have one arm to use as a counter weight to swing my hips around. Despite this the hard work is paying off and I feel my kicks have improved drastically were I'm successful in landing on the bag.
Last night we had the Team Vic High Performance training session at MTC Glen Waverly with around 25 of Victoria's best in attendance. My focus was to improve setting up my kicks and to get my doubles working on these guys.
I didn't really succeed in landing my doubles just because these guys are so dam good! Wow, I was blown away by two (I think they both won gold at the recent Vics). Despite being out classed its such a great opportunity for me to be able to kick around with them and I know that persisting here will benefit my development.
Cant wait for the next opportunity in two weeks!

See you all soon,

Steve
