Paralysis

Recently I was asked whether it hurts when someone kicks my arm, hence I thought this a good opportunity to explain a little about my injury.
We have 5 nerve paths which exit the spine and make there way down the arm. The impact of the motorbike accident caused 3 nerves to be ripped from the spine (and therefore permanently gone) and left the remaining 2 crushed in my shoulder.
9 months later I had surgery to repair the remaining 2 nerves by cutting out the damaged section of the nerve path and replacing it (similar to repairing a garden hose).
5 years down the track, some nerve fibers have grown all the way down into the hand. The result of this is I have minimal movement in my deltoid and bicep and some sensation. Though the sensation I have is quite different from what you would expect. I don't feel something touching my skin, what I feel is tingling on and around the nerve itself.
Because I don't have normal feeling, I have burnt myself cooking and broken my wrist without feeling any pain and hence only noticing the injuries after seeing them.
So you can see that contact to my arm doesn't hurt me. What does occasionally hurt is my ribs because of the way the sling rests against my body though I don't generally notice this until after training.
Paralysis feels like when you wake in the morning and have slept on your arm. You go to move it and you can't no matter how hard you try. Initially it's a scary feeling but after a short time you get pins and needles and you recover.
