It's Monday night again and I'm about to head into training to do some development work with Alana and Tom. It's been an absolute delight to watch these two kids step up their training for the past year and see their progression. Both have been on top of their game for a long period of time though now with a little more maturity I can see their attitude has changed to become much more professional. I do believe that attitude and being unreasonable is the key to ongoing success.
By this I mean how we approach training and what it means for the individual. For some Taekwondo is just a hobby, others are just in it for the fitness and then their's the rest of us who want to be number one. Problem is their are so many of us training hard trying to reach that ultimate success that just 'training hard' is not enough.
For these guys and myself it's about working on a strength and conditioning program at the gym before training, coming in on our nights off and training smarter by perfecting the techniques we are learning and by doing the recovery sessions in-between. For me it's challenging to maintain this level of training and still work full time and that is the unreasonable level of commitment I need to make to try to be the best that I can. You could say that it's unreasonable for me to fight in the open competition where I'm at such a clear disadvantage. The challenge for me is enormous but the experience I've gained shone through when I competed at the world championships.
I believe that is one of the steps in attempting to achieve your goals and looking around my club its easy to notice those that are putting in the hard effort because success is also coming their way.
