After being given the ok by two coaches to get more sleep, I've enjoyed setting the alarm for 7.30 and hitting snooze a couple of times. I really took the pressure off myself to get up and maximize my day and in doing so got at least 8 hours sleep.
In general we had a lighter training session on Tuesday and Thursday nights focusing on less volume and more explosive speed and technique.
But the real test would be Friday night, its the end of the working week and my forth Taekwondo session. I had the luxury of being the only senior who made it to training which meant my partner would be one of the instructors. I feel anxious, a little nauseous with the anticipation that I know that I will be pushed hard tonight.
With two mitts we are working on four or more kick combinations. Adam and Abet push me harder in those twenty minutes than any regular senior partner has in the last month. I am left completely wrecked at the end the drill.
The extra rest has helped. Pushing that hard is a moment by moment mental battle were I really need to concentrate to maintain my breathing and focus on my technique. As easy as it is to sit here now and say that, during the drills I notice my fatigue impacts greatly on my technique, poor technique means less power and speed which means a kick which will not score.
We finish the session with sparring, the second bout between Abet and myself. I tell myself I need to be fast, I need to cover after I kick. Initially Abet is smashing me, so quick on the counter its frustrating me. It takes me to the last round were I start to let it all go and begin following up with multiple kicks for me to score on him.
Afterwards I take some time to recap the session. Overall I felt I trained at the right level of intensity and this was because I was pushed, now its up to me to find my own consistency next week. Its also quite apparent I need to work on my sparring, following up my attacks and really letting it all go.

I recently received an email regarding a hopeful resolution for Australian athletes to compete in London. It appears that the International Olympic Committee has advise the AOC that they should consider Sport Taekwondo Australias application as they have WTF recognition. In short what that means is Australian athletes now have an opportunity to make it to the London Olympics. Great news!
