I have had an awesome week. In fact I couldn't have asked for any better.
It all started on Sunday and yes it was hot but the Big Day Out only happens once a year and I wasn't going to miss it for anything. With my genre of music covered by Tool and Rammstein I was more than content. Most of the day I was trying to survive the heat while eagerly awaiting the two main acts. It was a long wait with finally Rammstein coming on and stealing the show with an awesome display of pyrotechnics. Somehow I survived the mosh (absolutely crazy and taking me back to my youth) to stagger over for Tool. Visually amazing, Tool delivered all their classics though somehow struggled to match Rammsteins performance.
Tuesday Team Carlo officially started the year and we had an impressive full class of students. Training was intense but not to hard as we are slowly building up after the holidays.
Wednesday my friend calls me to tell me he has Tool tickets. At first I was apprehensive in seeing them again then next thing you know that internal little spark of excitement fires and I'm at myer music bowl surrounded by alternative rock hippies dressed mainly in black. The atmosphere is more intense than BDO (i think the long day in the heat probably had something to do with that) and when they start to play everyone is ecstatic. An overall better performance than Sunday and I leave feeling more than satisfied that I went.
Thursday night were back at training and the first thing Carlo asks is how everyone is feeling. The general response is "sore hamstrings" so extra time is spent on warming up and stretching. The session goes well and after class I stay back to start my focus training again. For the next two weeks it will be cardio and running kicks.
Friday afternoon, Team Carlo is now 6 days a week and we are training at 5.45. I walk in and my whole body is aching from a full on week yet I manage to get through the session even if it was only at about 75%. It makes me wonder how I managed such a training load last year though I already know that it will take some time to build up to that level again. It was a tough session and I was completely exhausted last night so I went to bed early.
Today has been really productive, I have been to see the physio and get some work done a strained abductor (a small injury I've had for over a week, not big enough to stop me but annoying enough that it was time to get it worked on) and have a good chat with Adam. I'm floating some ideas by him (seeing he is so enthusiastic about coaching and training) to help me improve on my cardio fitness. We will see how that turns out shortly.
My plans for the rest of the weekend is recovery, recovery and recovery. I think that makes it clear, my body is sore and for me to reach my full potential next week it's important I do the right preparation now.
