Introduction to Steven Currie

Hi there and welcome to the first entry of the JOLS Taekwondo blog. Our aim for this blog is to give you an insight into the world of Martial Arts and Taekwondo through the eyes of a talented and inspiring athlete.

In case you don’t know much about us, JOLS is the Australian distributor for adidas Martial Arts and we have been around since 1978. We cater to a variety of martial arts enthusiasts from beginner to champion and specialise in Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Boxing. You can purchase uniforms and equipment for all these specialties on our website at www.jols.com.au.

Moving on, we would like to introduce you to our Taekwondo blogger, Steven Currie.

Steven has just returned from the 2nd WTF World Para Taekwondo Championships in Russia where he won Gold! Steven is now Australia's first ever World Taekwondo Champion.

A mixture of passion, hard work and determination has led Steven to where he is today. Steven got his first taste of Taekwondo at 12 years old and was rekindled with the sport at 21, after some time away.

It hasn't all been smooth sailing though, after a motorbike accident five years ago left him with a paralysed arm. But instead of letting the injury impact on his dreams, Steven seriously contemplated what was important and what he wanted to achieve.

The accident made Steven even more determined to succeed and he subsequently passed his Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineering and persevered in his Taekwondo training and received his black belt!

Steven is now a Gold medal winner and has had the honour of representing his country on a world stage. He bases his achievements on pure commitment and hunger to succeed. Steven believes that aiming for 100% is what has got him where he is today and he hopes to promote Para Taekwondo to people who find themselves in a similar situation to him.

This blog will give you an insight into the role Taekwondo plays in Steven’s life. He will document his training, his travelling and competing, his preparations for competing and his general feelings.
